During our career as adventurers, we have the honour of standing side by side with some truly amazing people. Friends and allies who almost become a surrogate family as we wander our world and face threats that could put in peril our very existence. Once all is said and done and look back on the memories of those times, it’s a common practice to try reach out once year to arrange a joyous reunion and catch up with some of our closest comrades.
This year, however, one reunion organizer is now realising he may not get as many RSVPS as he had originally hoped for. Jegory Thistletoe was a tavern keeper who answered an advert for a classic dungeon crawl and that’s where his career in adventuring and his legend as a formidable warrior began along with 19 other aspiring hopefuls.
It was great. There we were in a camp the night before our first delve and it was easily the happiest time of my life. There were games, drinking, stories being told and even some romance here and there. I really felt like I had met friends for life. That’s when I had the idea for this reunion.
In ten years time we would all reunite to catch up and reminisce about that amazing night. We would see what amazing things people had accomplished throughout the decade and have some drinks and make a truly memorable night out of it.
I sent out the invitations months ago and the only people who answered back are the very people I ended up travelling with for years on end and, quite frankly, I’m sick of them. I mean, they’re ok and all but, you have to understand, we spent many a night basically in each other’s pockets. I want to see what people like crazy Jeff got up to of if Creighton Narayan did manage to earn enough to buy back his family’s farm.
I haven’t seen most of these people since those dungeon doors opened. We all ran in, it was pitch black and I heard some screaming and fighting. By the time we’d hit the next room, a bunch of people must have splintered off and found another way through. That just carried on with each progressive room. I figured we’d reunite outside but they must have found some other way out.
That’s why I was so excited for this reunion. I haven’t seen anyone from that day other than the same three people in all this time. I don’t know, maybe they’re all busy.
We promptly thanked Jegory for his time and made a quick exit. We didn’t have the heart to tell him.
